Jean Huelsing RN, BSN, MEd

Jean is an internationally recognized expert in the weight loss camp industry and on many other health/education issues. She is an award-winning teacher and has received many “Excellence in Care” nursing awards, along with an American Red Cross Lifesaver award. She is an expert in the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity, according to the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She has helped her participants lose more than 50,000 pounds! Jean has been the media spokesperson for “Go Healthy Challenge”, a partnership between the St. Louis regional chapter of the American Heart Association and Alliance for a Healthier Generation. She is the founder of Camp Jump Start as well as the founder of the Living Well Foundation, a non-profit organization specializing in healthy lifestyle immersion. Her vision that no child should have adult disease and no one should die from preventable illness has positioned her as a national thought leader, working at the grassroots level.

Jean has written for many publications including consumer magazines, newspapers, nursing/professional journals and medical journals. She also is a national speaker.

Jean has been interviewed as an expert by People, Rolling Stone, and affiliates for NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX. She provided background information for the documentary “Fat Like Me”, worked with MTV for an episode of “MADE”, which was filmed at camp, and was featured in a PBS documentary about Camp Jump Start campers.

Tom Huelsing CPFT

Tom is a certified personal trainer and has been a coach in youth sports for more than 25 years. He has a black belt in martial arts and has taught Tae Kwon Do since 1991. Tom has designed a self-defense program for the campers to increase their confidence and self-esteem. It’s his belief that Camp Jump Start is an excellent, safe environment for campers to learn new physical skills. He works with the kids on a daily basis to build healthy bodies and instill self-confidence.
